Plug Media Thinks Big and Goes Green

14 Jun 2022

As a part of our ongoing commitment to working towards a net zero carbon future, we are now measuring end to end emissions across 100% of our media campaigns, and will be compensating for the emissions produced via. a collection of high quality programs, that remove carbon from the atmosphere.

This has been made possible thanks to a recent partnership with Scope3, the market leaders in carbon emissions data modelling.

As a part of the optimisation process, we will now utilise emissions data, in line with campaign performance data, to help make better informed decisions across digital strategy, planning and programmatic trading on behalf of our clients and agency partners. Customers will be given dashboard access, whilst post campaign analysis will include a full breakdown of supply chain emissions and carbon reduction optimisations as standard.

The Climate Emergency is the biggest challenge we will face in our lifetimes.

The internet is the 6th largest polluter, with a greater carbon footprint than the airline industry.

To put this into context:

  • On average, one programmatic ad impression = 1g CO2e
  • So 1,000,000 impressions = 1 metric ton of CO2e
  • Or the equivalent of the carbon in 200,000 plastic grocery bags

The science is clear. We need to turn fast and hard if we are to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees and mitigate the worst effects of the climate crisis. This requires every single one of us to respond and transition. But we can’t succeed acting alone - we need fully committed industry-wide coalitions that drive the change we need to see.
